COMPARISON

Lee Hill Drive (Boulder) vs Lookout Mountain Road (Golden)

Why are these two compared?
Before Boulder county added the BIKES MAY USE FULL LANE sign to the westbound side of Lee Hill Drive Lookout Mountain Road was the longest road in the State of Colorado with a BIKES MAY USE FULL LANE signal 4.1 Miles.

Lee Hill Drive is 4.2 Miles (measured at the split from Olde Stage Road and Lee Hill Drive). To say this again Lee Hill drive is the longest road in the State of Colorado with this designation!

Why, you decide:

-
Look out Mountain is just outside golden Colorado downtown in the Colorado school of mines. This is a large density of population foot traffic and bike traffic next to the entrance to Lookout Mountain Road, Lee Hill Drive does not have this issue.
-
Lookout Mountain Road is CLOSED AT NIGHT, it isn't utilized after the neighborhood access lower down the road for any other purpose.
-
Look out Mountain Road is the entrance to Buffalo Bill Museum and supports tourist on this road as well. Lee Hill Drive is not a main tourist road since Netherland and Estes Park are primarily accessed at different entrance points.
-
Look out Mountain Road also supports paragliders that access the road fly over it and add additional dangers such as paraglider viewing that Lee Hill Drive does not deal with since it is further up and away from the paragliding access point off of Broadway
4. Look out Mountain Road is gated and is closed dawn to dusk from the access point directly out of Golden due to the dangers this road presents for everyone involved including bicycles.

Lee Hill Drive is the main access point for the Boulder Heights and small town such as Ward and Jamestown further up the mountain, although they have different access points as well. it does not support the tourism spots like Lookout Mountain Road.

So again ask yourself, why is the BIKES MAY USE FULL LANE sign used for all of Lee Hill Drive going westbound? This is the ONLY road in Boulder county with this designation that will be in place for years or forever unless they add an official bike lane. The county is inconsistent in its application of regulations and the law endangering everyone on the road.
COMPARISON:
There are also similar Local roads with no shoulder leaving the City of Boulder into the mountains such as:
These are all heavily used bike roads that are similar to Lee Hill Drive with no shoulder and all access mountain. Why doesn't the county also designate these roads in the same way as Lee Hill Drive and add a BIKES MAY USE FULL LANE sign? if it's for the safety of bikes and vehicles using all these similar roads then the application of the law should be uniformly applied.
